Writing Matters: How to Write a Good Chapter

Event Description:

How do we make our ideas come alive and reach a wider readership? Writing Matters, a year-long workshop of eight sessions, will help NYU graduate students and faculty develop a writing style that reaches beyond jargon and wooden prose.

In this installment of the Writing Matters series, attention will be paid to pacing, variety, mixing the general and the specific, providing connective tissue, and erecting signposts to guide the reader. We will also discuss where and how to present one's position, how much to withhold, how to build tension and drama without becoming overheated, and how to avoid a dull recitation of facts. Finally, we will discuss how to break chapters into sections and develop transitions between them.

Each session in the workshop series is unique. There will be no repeat sessions, so we encourage you to attend all of them! All workshops will be held at 19 University Place, The Great Room. Click here to register for the first session.
