Research Fellowships For Faculty & Doctoral Students

Applications due November 12, 2018

During their residency, last year’s Faculty and Doctoral Student Fellows at the NYU Center for the Humanities worked on their book projects and dissertations, attended weekly meetings lunches to discuss projects and research, and engaged in interdisciplinary dialogue with other fellows and faculty at the Center.

“It was in conversation with other fellows, as well in presentations and discussions of both my work and theirs, that I was able to elaborate a theoretical basis and articulate a new critical language for reframing my project.”

2016-2017 Faculty Fellow

Each year, the Center for the Humanities awards research fellowships to full-time faculty and advanced doctoral students in the humanities at NYU. Disciplines include, but are not limited to, history, art history, music, philosophy, cultural studies, literary and language studies, religious studies, drama and performance studies, cinema studies, and gender studies.

The opportunity to spend a year focused on my writing helped me make important progress on my dissertation. It was especially meaningful to develop close relationships with others in the program, and to receive feedback from distinguished scholars in an array of fields. The chance to develop skills in speaking to scholars in other disciplines and at various career points is something that I will carry with me moving forward.”

2016-2017 Doctoral Student Fellow

We invite applications from NYU Ph.D. candidates who have completed all degree requirements except for the dissertation, and are maintaining matriculation with full-time status in the humanities and arts disciplines, and NYU faculty in full-time positions. Note that Ph.D. candidates must be nominated by their department to apply.

Please see the fellowship webpage for additional information and instructions on how to apply. The application deadline is November 12th, 2018.
