Salvage Archeology and the Future of History in West Africa

Robyn d’Avignon is an associate professor of history. She works on the history of science, environmental anthropology, and the politics of knowledge production in Senegal and Guinea. Her first book, A Ritual Geology: Gold and Subterranean Knowledge in Savanna West Africa (Duke UP, 2022) introduced transnational geological formations as a new regional framework for African history. She is at work on a second book on salvage archeology in Senegal.
