Bad, Bad, Bad Girls: Trans Matrilineality, Memory, and Kinship

Dilara Çalışkan’s teaching and research focus on trans and queer studies, memory studies, and the anthropology of relatedness. She has published articles on these intersections in the European Journal of Women’s Studies and Memory Studies, as well as chapters in edited volumes on memory and kinship studies. Her forthcoming book, Bad, Bad, Bad Girls: Memories and Times of Trans Matrilineality, draws on long-term ethnography in Istanbul to suggest new ways of theorizing how kin are made, the notion of lineage is imagined, and how memory is transmitted across generations outside the gendered frames of nation and family.
