Captive Archives: Visitations in Prison Notebooks & the Palestinian Prisoners’ Movement

Alia Al Sabi is a PhD candidate in the Performance Studies department. Her research focuses on the material and immaterial writing practices of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Movement through the study of an archival record of their books and notebooks from the 70s and 80s period. Her work considers theories of movement and subversion within logics of surveillance and confinement, and the ways in which prison writing becomes a way to understand the larger political landscape inside and outside of prison.
