Take Note: Listening to French Literature in the Long 13th Century

Terrence Cullen is a sixth-year PhD candidate in the Department of French Literature, Thought and Culture, where he works on medieval French and Occitan literature and song, as well as sound studies. His dissertation, ‘Note Books: Listening to French Literature in the Long 13th Century,’ offers a new account of musical notation’s role in the manuscript culture of medieval France and has been supported by the ACLS/Mellon Foundation, the NEH, and NYU’s Remarque Institute.
