    Program Description

    The Undergraduate Summer Research Program at the NYU Center for the Humanities includes NYU students and LAMI students. Our program consists of a research colloquium, a writing workshop, a GRE preparation course, weekly lunches on professional development, and co-curricular activities. Students are each matched with a faculty mentor with whom they meet once a week. Research projects are in the humanities disciplines. Applicants must be available to attend all on-campus sessions, workshops, meetings, and events from June 4 to August 5, 2017.

    Application Requirements

    The application deadline is March 1 April 10, 2017. We recommend preparing your materials in advance. Below are the required materials:

    • Curriculum vitae or resume
    • Official or unofficial copy of your transcript
    • Personal statement that describes your academic and career goals with a focus on your current research interests. Please describe the summer research project you'd like to pursue in this program. Your statement should demonstrate an understanding of questions and issues within your academic discipline and clearly explain your reason for pursuing doctoral level training. (1,000 words)
    • Letter of recommendation from an NYU faculty member. Upon submitting your application, your recommender will be prompted with a separate online form to submit their letter. Please inform your recommender about this responsibility and the deadline in advance.

  • 3. Letter of Recommendation

  • The recommendation letter should be submitted by an NYU faculty member or researcher you've worked with.
    • Contact your recommender personally and allow ample time for your recommender to write a letter. Discuss your summer plans and long-term goals with them. Provide recommenders with your resume and your reasons for applying this program.
    • Confirm your recommender's preferred email and follow up after your submit the request.
    • The recommendation letter must be submitted as a PDF.
    • The letter is also due on March 1 April 10, 2017. Your application is incomplete without your faculty member's recommendation letter submission.
  • Upon submitting this application, an email will be sent to recommender requesting a letter of support. It is strongly suggested that you follow up with your external referee directly. This brief message will be included in that prompt.
