Michel Nieva holds a degree in Philosophy from the University of Buenos Aires. Before joining NYU, he worked as a translator, teacher, and researcher at CONICET (Argentina).
His research examines contemporary Latin American art, literature, and material culture in relation to late capitalist imaginaries of the future and the legacies of colonialism and extractivism.
He has contributed texts to art institutions and events, including the Venice Biennale of Architecture, Artangel (London), NEON (Athens), and Barro (Buenos Aires–New York).
Nieva is also a science fiction writer and the author of five books. He has been awarded an O. Henry Prize and was selected by Granta magazine as one of the best young Spanish-language writers. His first novel translated into English is Dengue Boy (2025). His book of essays, Technology and Barbarism, is forthcoming in 2026.
