Double Major in Dance and Psychology
Shloka Porwal is an international dancer and choreographer from India, currently pursuing a double major in Dance and Psychology, with a minor in BEMT. Her choreographic work has been presented at venues such as NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Netherlands Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, Perry-Mansfield, and Dhurii India, among others across the world.
Shloka’s artistic vision centers on using psychological research to inform movement, creating work that reflects and provokes dialogue around personal, social, and cultural transformations in today’s world. Her practice is deeply rooted in the spirit-mind-body connection, allowing her to craft storytelling that is both emotionally resonant and intellectually grounded.
As a performer, she has danced in works by Marco Goecke, Gus Solomons Jr., Ronald K. Brown, Sofia Nappi, Amos Ben-Tal, and Ernesta Corvino, among others. Shloka draws from her training in Indian classical and folk dance traditions, blending them with contemporary forms to create an interdisciplinary language that is both culturally grounded and globally relevant.
